In July 2020, a local boxing club in Newarthill suffered a devastating fire. The building was gone. The kit was gone. And with it, the routine, the structure and the community that dozens of young boys and men had built their weeks around.
They were given a temporary premises to keep the club running. But it had been sitting empty, untouched, unloved, and unsuitable in its current state for anyone to train in.
D4 Decor went in and decorated it. No contract. No margin.
"The boys deserved a clean, bright space to train in. We could do something about that. So we did."
That's what this post is about, not a major commercial project, not a luxury hotel fit-out, but the kind of job that doesn't end up in a portfolio. And why that work matters just as much to us.

The Newarthill Boxing Club Fire: What Happened
The fire in July 2020 was a significant loss for the local community in Newarthill, North Lanarkshire. Boxing clubs, particularly at youth level, serve a purpose well beyond sport. They offer structure, discipline, mentorship and a sense of belonging, especially for young people who might not find that elsewhere.
When a club like that is destroyed, the damage isn't just physical. The loss of that training space is the loss of a daily anchor for the people who depend on it.
A temporary premises was sourced to keep the club operational while longer-term plans were put in place. The space existed. But it was in no fit state for a group of young athletes to train in with any sense of pride.
We heard about it. We decided to help.

What D4 Decor Did, and Why
Our team went into the temporary premises and carried out a full internal decoration. No client brief. No formal scope of works. Just a professional decorating team doing what they do, preparing the surfaces, getting the right products on the walls, and leaving the space looking clean, fresh and fit for purpose.
The work was completed pro bono. We covered the cost ourselves.
The reason is straightforward. D4 Decor has been part of the Glasgow and wider Scottish community for over 25 years. We've built our business here. We've hired locally, grown locally, and delivered across Scotland. When we see something we can fix, and it's the right thing to do, we act.
A freshly decorated training space doesn't solve everything. But it sends a message to the young people walking into it: your club matters. You matter. Someone took the time to make this right for you. That matters more than most business cases ever do.
Community Work Is Part of How D4 Decor Operates
The boxing club project isn't an anomaly. It's an expression of something that runs through the way D4 Decor is built.
We are, first and foremost, a professional commercial decorating contractor. We deliver large-scale projects across Scotland and beyond, hotels, sports venues, industrial facilities, commercial developments. We have the experience, the workforce and the track record to back that up.
But the people who make up this company live in these communities. And that shapes how we think about what we do.
Here's what that looks like in practice:
We sponsor local football clubs across the area, supporting grassroots youth sport.
We've worked with the Youth Guarantee Programme, bringing young people from the local area into the trade and giving them a credible start in a skilled profession.
Our team supports local food banks, because food poverty in Scotland is real, and it's close to home for a lot of people.
We run a paint take-back scheme at Cambuslang Decorating Centre, reducing waste and keeping usable materials out of landfill.
None of these things are marketing exercises. They're just decisions made by a team of people who care about where they work and the communities their clients, colleagues and families are part of.
Why This Matters When You're Choosing a Commercial Contractor
If you're a facilities manager, project manager, hotel operator or commercial developer looking for a decorating contractor in Scotland, you have a lot of options.
Most of them will give you a price. Many of them will deliver acceptable work. A smaller number will deliver to the standard a high-value commercial environment actually demands.
But fewer still are built on a set of values that extend beyond the invoice.
When you hire D4 Decor, you're working with a company that:
Has delivered commercially across luxury hospitality, sports venues, industrial facilities and large-scale residential developments
Has been doing this in Scotland for over 25 years with no shortcuts and no excuses
Employs people who live in the communities your projects are part of
Takes its responsibilities seriously, to clients, to staff, to the wider community
That's not a soft differentiator. It's a signal about how a company is run. And how a company is run is how your project will be managed.
